TULSA, Okla. -- South Dakota State outhit Tulsa on Tuesday at Collins Family Softball Complex, however the Golden Hurricane took advantage of its opportunities as the Jackrabbits fell 9-3.Â
The Jacks had the first lead of the game by producing two hits in the top of the first inning.
Abby Gentry hit a one-out double, then she scored on a two-out RBI single by
Akayla Barnard.Â
SDSU starting pitcher
Tayler Baker nearly got out of the first unscathed. A two-out infield error allowed a Tulsa run to score as the two sides went into the second frame tied at 1-1.
Alli Boyle led the second off for the Jacks with a double. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and eventually was stranded there after two consecutive outs. Tulsa came back to the plate and broke the game open. The Golden Hurricane got two runners on base via walk. Tulsa's Maci Cole followed with a two-out, three-run home run to give the home side a 4-1 edge.Â
Tulsa added another three runs to its tally in the fifth. SDSU responded in the top of the sixth inning with two runs.
Brooke Dumont hit a single that drove in two Jackrabbits to make it 7-3. The Golden Hurricane came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to thwart any SDSU comeback attempt.Â
South Dakota State fell to 5-8 overall on the season in the loss. Tulsa improved to 7-8 with the victory.Â
Barnard and Gentry each had two hits for SDSU, while Barnard and Dumont produced an RBI apiece. Five different Jackrabbits appeared in the circle.
Kierra Goos threw a team-high 2 1/3 innings. Baker didn't allow a hit in 1 2/3 innings, but she gave up three walks as the SDSU pitcher was credited with the loss.Â
