KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The South Dakota State women's basketball team picked up a 76-63 road win over Kansas City Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Center.
Brooklyn Meyer and
Madison Mathiowetz scored 25 and 18 points, respectively, for the Jackrabbits, who improve to 16-5 overall and 6-1 in Summit League play. Meyer's scoring led all players, and the senior added eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks to her stat line. Mathiowetz matched her career high with seven assists and has scored at least 15 points in four straight games.
The Jackrabbits won all four quarters but did not lead by double figures until the fourth period. The opening half featured five tie scores and two lead changes, with SDSU's largest lead of eight coming after an 8-0 run to go up 32-24 early in the second quarter. The Jacks led 42-36 at halftime.
Kansas City opened the second half on a 14-4 run to lead 50-46 at the 5:59 mark of the third quarter. The Jacks quickly responded with a 15-3 stretch that included three 3-pointers from
Emilee Fox to take the lead for good by the end of the third, 61-53. The sides traded buckets early in the fourth, then SDSU held KC scoreless for nearly five minutes in the final period to close out the 13-point win.
Fox supplied 12 points, all in the second half and all from the 3-point line. The sophomore increased her 3-point percentage to a blistering .593 overall and .680 in Summit League action. Fox also gave out three assists.
Katie Vasecka rounded out SDSU's double-digits scorers with 11 points. She also had three rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Hilary Behrens set a new career high with 10 rebounds to lead all players and contributed three steals, two blocks and two assists.
The Jackrabbits finished the game 49% from the floor and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. SDSU has shot better than .470 in five straight games. Paced by Meyer, the Jacks outscored the Roos 40-22 in the paint. The Jackrabbits matched their season high with 17 offensive rebounds and outscored the Roos 13-9 in second chance points.
Kansas City's Emani Bennett came off the bench for 21 points, five rebounds and two blocks to lead the Roos. Tierra Trotter posted 11 points and seven assists. The Roos slip to 6-15 overall and 3-5 in the Summit League.

- SDSU now leads the all-time series vs. the Roos 22-1.
- Brooklyn Meyer has scored at least 20 points in three straight games and 13 times total this season.
- SDSU has knocked down at least seven 3-pointers in four of its last five games.
