South Dakota State hits the road Wednesday night for a rivalry matchup at North Dakota State before returning home Saturday evening to host South Dakota. The contests mark the final week of conference play for the Jackrabbits, with Saturday's showdown serving as Senior Night at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Jackrabbits enter the week at 22-6 overall and 12-2 in league play. SDSU beat Denver, 71-55, Saturday afternoon and has won five straight.
North Dakota State is 25-2 on the season and 14-0 in Summit League action. The Bison are coming off two wins last week over - St. Thomas and South Dakota - and have clinched the No. 1 seed at next week's Summit League Tournament. Avery Koenen leads the Bison in scoring (19.2 PPG), rebounds (11.1 RPG) and blocks (1.3 BPG). NDSU tops the Summit League in field goal percentage (49.2) and scoring margin (21.9).
South Dakota is 21-7 overall and 11-3 in conference play. The Coyotes are coming off a split week beating Omaha on Thursday evening and losing to NDSU on Saturday afternoon. Angelina Robles is pacing USD in scoring (15.8 PPG) and assists (3.1 APG). The Coyotes lead the Summit League in field goal percentage defense (34.8) and defensive rebounds per game (29.1).
KEY STORYLINES
- The Jacks have reached 20 wins for the 15th consecutive season. SDSU is one of only a handful of programs with an active streak that long (Baylor, UConn, Louisville, South Carolina).
- South Dakota State goes into the final week looking to lock up the No. 2 seed for next week's Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls. A 2-0 week for SDSU would clinch the No. 2 seed.
- Brooklyn Meyer averaged 31.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 3.0 APG, 3.0 BPG and 1.5 SPG across two wins last week, earning her Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors. She scored a program-record 44 points at Oral Roberts Thursday night.
- Emilee Fox enters the week as the No. 1 3-point shooter in the country at an even 50% on the year. The sophomore is 46-for-92 from deep and scores 9.7 PPG in conference action.
- HC Aaron Johnston reached 650 career wins last week. He ranks 12th among active DI coaches for career wins and career win percentage (.763).
- SDSU is on a five-game win streak and has shot better than .500 from the floor in all five games. The Jacks have averaged 87.4 PPG and allowed 57.4 PPG in that run.
- Brooklyn Meyer scores 21.8 points per game (10th in NCAA) and is .643 from the floor this year (5th in NCAA). She is one of three players in the country averaging 20+ points and shooting better than 60% this year (Audi Crooks at Iowa State & Jaliya Davis at Kansas)
- Maddie Mathiowetz averages 13.4 PPG overall and 14.9 PPG in conference contests. She averaged 23.5 points in two wins last week and has scored at least 15 in eight of the last 11.
- Hadley Thul has started five straight games for the Jacks. In that stretch, Thul has contributed 10.0 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting .588 from the field.
