Seventh-ranked TCU recorded 4-1 advantages in reining and flat en route to a 14-6 victory over 10th-ranked South Dakota State in a head-to-head equestrian competition Friday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.
The Horned Frogs improved to 5-3 overall, while SDSU fell to 3-5 overall in its first action of the spring season.
TCU opened the first half of the meet with 3-2 advantages in both fences and horsemanship behind respective Most Outstanding Performers Lex Lipacis and Sydney Feager. Lipacis scored 86 points on her fences ride to out-duel the Jackrabbits' Sarah Gould by four points, while Feager tallied a score of 74.5 in horsemanship.
Jackrabbit senior Brighton McBride turned in the top score among the 10 competitors in horsemanship, winning her matchup against Calla Thomas by a score of 75-71. Avery Bergan notched the other SDSU point in the event with a score of 72.5.
In fences, Isabelle Malick (81 points) and Juliana Gullo (79) each won one-point decisions over their TCU opponents.
TCU distanced itself by winning four of the five matchups in reining. Sophomore Emma Riggs was the lone Jackrabbit to record a point as she turned in a 71-67.5 victory over Lannie-Jo Lisac on Rooster and earned MOP honors. Two matchups won by the Horned Frogs were by a half-point each.
Kayla Scherer picked up SDSU's only point in flat with a 77-74 victory over Lapacis. Heidi White tallied the Jackrabbits' highest score with an 87 aboard Leo, but came up two points short against MOP Hanna Dolan.
