SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota State senior guard
Madison Mathiowetz was named to the Summit League's Academic All-League Team Wednesday. The award recognizes excellence on the court and in the classroom.
Mathiowetz, a human biology major on a pre-chiropractic track, holds a 3.62 cumulative GPA. She capped off her Jackrabbit career with an All-Summit First Team selection this season, averaging 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists on the year. This is the first Academic All-League recognition of her career.
SDSU has placed at least one women's basketball athlete on the Academic All-League list in each of the last six seasons.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Â
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's institutions that carry women's basketball, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes.
