2023: Was the team’s most consistent starting pitcher as he logged a team-best 58 1/3 innings and 4.32 earned run average, while sharing the team lead with five victories and 11 games started … pitched out of the bullpen in each of his first four appearances … named Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week for the first time during the season by limiting Saint Louis to four hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts over six innings to highlight 5-1 Jackrabbit victory … held Omaha to one earned run with four K’s in five-inning outing and victory (4/16) … solidified all-Summit League résumé after tossing seven shutout innings with five strikeouts and three hits allowed to finish off doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas (4/23) … held Purdue to one run and one hit over seven innings, but finished with no-decision (5/7) … sent the Jackrabbits to championship of Summit League postseason tournament by blanking North Dakota State over seven innings while striking out a season-high seven batters (5/26)
2022: Made eight appearances out of the bullpen as a true freshman … began collegiate career by not allowing an earned run over the final four innings of season opener against Purdue … tossed three scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing one hit in second game of doubleheader at Central Arkansas (3/5) … missed nearly a month due to illness, but marked return with a perfect inning of relief against North Dakota State (4/29)
BEFORE SDSU: Jake was a standout two-way player in baseball and also an all-state performer in football at the prep level … was honored as an American Legion all-state pitcher in 2020 in helping lead the storied Rapid City Post 22 program to a state championship … turned in an 8-2 record with a 1.75 earned run average in 2020, followed by a 7-3 record in 2021 … struck out a combined 168 batters in 127 innings over two seasons … also saw action at first base and excelled at the plate, clubbing a combined 15 home runs with 108 runs batted in over the 2020 and 2021 seasons … in football, received all-state recognition at defensive end and honorable mention all-state accolades as a tight end for Saint Thomas More High School … member of the National Honor Society and an academic all-state honoree … his father, Jeff, lettered for the Jackrabbits in football from 1990-92
