Maggie Murphy enters her third season as assistant golf coach at South Dakota State.
In 2017-18, the Jackrabbits finished the season with four consecutive top-three finishes, including third at the Summit League Championship. All together, SDSU finished in the top 10 in seven of its 10 tournaments.
Teresa Toscano came close to winning the individual title at the league championship. The Summit League All-Tournament honoree fired a final-round 69 to tie for the lowest round in Summit League history, but it wasn’t enough as she tied for second in a three-player, one-hole playoff.
Toscano (first team), Sydney Bormann (second team) and Cassidy Laidlaw (second) were named to all-league teams.
Â
In the record book, Toscano tied the school record for 18 holes (68) and set the stroke average (73.52) mark while the team finished second in single-season scoring average (302.07).
The 2018-19 season produced a third place finish at the conference championship for the women. Toscano was named to the All-Summit League first team and All-Tournament team, finishing fourth at 15-over par at the Summit League Championship. Additionally, Toscano captured two regular-season titles.Â
Â
Murphy came to State after pursuing professional golf status from 2010 to 2012 and most recently played in the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.
In 2019, Murphy won the SDGA 2019 Match Play.
Â
The Sioux Falls native played in the 2011 U.S. Golf Association Women’s State Team Championship. Competing in the South Dakota Golf Association, Murphy was the 2011 Players Cup Champion, the 2010 Match Play Champion and the 2007 Amateur Champion.
Â
Murphy competed in 35 tournaments at New Mexico State from 2006-10, earning National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar accolades and All-Western Athletic Conference Academic honors during her collegiate career. In 2006, Murphy was part of an Aggie team that captured the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate title.
