LINCOLN, Neb. -- South Dakota State University Western riders won eight events in a pair of women's equestrian meets hosted by Nebraska Saturday.
The Jackrabbits also finished as runners-up in each competition, trailing IHSA regional leader Nebraska.
In morning competition, Kaylee Mundweiler and Brianna Grohs each scored victories. Mundweiler placed first in Section A of open horsemanship, with Grohs winning the Section B competition.
SDSU completed a successful afternoon session with six individual titles, including victories by Katie Hendrickson and Ashlie Centa follwoing second-place efforts in the morning. Hendrickson won Section B of open horsemanship, while Centa claimed the Section C title.
Other winners in horsemanship were Karley Stoltenburg in Section B of novice horsemanship, Nikki Jensen in Section A of beginner horsemanship and Cierra Anderson in Section D of intermediate horsemanship.
Lacey Vernon led the Jackrabbits in the open reining competition with a victory in Section A.
In addition, Carolyn Wehde became the first Western rider to qualify for this spring's regional on the strength of a second-place finish in Section D of intermediate horsemanship and a third-place finish in Section B in afternoon competition. Wehde will move up a class for the remainder of the regular season, returning to intermediate competition in March.
The Jackrabbit English team returns to action Nov. 4 at Minnesota-Crookston, while the Western squad's next competition will be in home dual action Nov. 11 versus Delaware State.
