Soccer team defeats IUPUI on Senior Day

BROOKINGS, S.D. ? The South Dakota State women's soccer team defeated the IUPUI Jaguars 2-1 on Senior Day at Fishback Soccer Park.

The win improves SDSU's record to 4-3-3 for the season. IUPUI's record dropped to 1-9-2 on the season. The Jackrabbits now have a 3-0-1 record in Summit League play.

The Jackrabbits struck first with a goal by Heather Hill 15 minutes into the first half. Kelsey Worcester got her first assist of the season on Hill's first goal of the season.

The Jaguars evened the score with a goal by MaryBeth McMillan off a direct kick five minutes into the second period.

Kaitlin Justice put the Jackrabbits ahead for good when she scored an unassisted goal 21 minutes into the second half. The goal was Justice's third of the season.

Daniella Pappas started the game at goalie for SDSU and she picked up two saves. Brienna Rogers played the second half. Rogers allowed one goal, but picked up her first collegiate win.

Jamie Farrell was IUPUI's goalkeeper. She had three saves and allowed two goals.

The Jackrabbits out-shot the Jaguars 16-8 on the match. SDSU had five shots on goal and IUPUI had three shots on goal.

Kellyn Farrell led the Jackrabbits with four shots. Justice and Hill each had three shots. Hill led the team with two shots on goal.

SDSU will travel to Macomb, Ill. to play the Western Illinois Westerwinds on Oct. 11. The Summit League match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
