Katie Budahl broke her own school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, but the South Dakota State women's swimming and diving team dropped the dual meet to Nebraska, 176-119, at the HPER Center Pool Friday night.
A junior from Mitchell, Budahl finished in 2 minutes, 22.41 seconds, winning the race by more than six seconds faster than her second-place teammate, Emily Tschetter (2:28.74). Budahl set the previous school record of 2:23.02 in her last outing, Nov. 23 at Nebraska.
Budahl also placed first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 31.20 seconds. Freshman Kaitlyn Hemmingson finished third, clocking in at 32.66 seconds.
Ashley Valdez, a freshman from Eaton, Colo., claimed victory in the 50 butterfly, finishing in 26.94 seconds. The win was the first of Valdez's career.
Mallory Onisk won her second 100 individual medley race of the season, finishing in 1:00.57. Senior Hannah Ferree, who took second place in 1:07.97 and junior Kayleigh Boucher, whose time of 1:08.37 was good enough for the third spot, followed Onisk.
The Jacks closed out the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay as Sara Olenich, Anger Jae Bienfang, Christina Gerometta and Boucher finished with a time of 1:43.84.
The Jackrabbit women, 3-3 overall in duals, return to the pool when they will compete in a dual at St. Petersburg, Fla. during their winter training trip from Jan. 2-9. SDSU will host Saint Louis (Mo.) at the HPER Center Pool in a two-day dual on Jan. 10-11. Day 1 will begin at 6 p.m., with the second session starting at 9 a.m.
