South Dakota State women's swimming team won six individual races along with two relay wins to defeat St. Louis University, 141-100, Saturday night at the HPER Center Pool.
Christina Gerometta won two events on the night, with the first coming in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 10 minutes, 59.19 seconds. She also won the 500 freestyle by more eight seconds, finishing in 5:20.48. It was Gerometta's first victories in the two events this season.
Mallory Onisk was a two-time winner, as well, placing first in the 50 freestyle in 24.72 seconds. The senior from Bear, Del., also won the 100 butterfly, finishing in 59.30 seconds ? her third win in the event this season.
Onisk was the anchor of the winning 200 medley relay race along with
Jessica Ferley,
Sara Olenich and
Ashley Valdez that finished with a season best time of 1:52.00.
Ferley went on to win the 100 freestyle for the first time, clocking in at 54.48 seconds.
Junior
Katie Budahl won her third 100 breaststroke event of the season with a time of 1:07.83. Freshman
Lynn Wegner placed second at 1:11.04
In the final event of the night, the Jacks took the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Ferley,
Rachel Musser, Olenich and Onisk finished at 1:41.65
The Jacks, 4-3 in duals this season, will swim again against St. Louis at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the HPER Center Pool.
