FORT WAYNE, Ind. ? South Dakota State fell into a 10-0 hole to start Friday's game at IPFW and never recovered, as the Mastodons cruised to a 100-66 Summit League win at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.
IPFW added another 10-0 run and a pair of 7-0 runs in the first half to put the game away before the half, when they led 55-18.
Garrett Callahan led the Jacks with 12 points, Kai Williams added ten in the loss, which drops the Jacks to 6-10, IPFW improves to 6-9, both teams end the night at 1-3 in Summit League play.
David Carson led five Mastodons in double figures with 24 points, and outscored the Jackrabbits 20-18 in the first half.
IPFW kept pouring it on in the second half, increasing its lead to as many as 46 points before the Jackrabbits cut it to the final 36-point deficit.
The Jacks struggled to shoot 28 percent in the first half on 7-of-25 shooting, including a 1-for-11 effort from three-point range. Things got better in the second half, when SDSU went 16-of-33 from the floor, 48.5 percent, and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, 63.6 percent.
IPFW shot 48.7 percent from the floor in the first half on 19-of-39 shooting, and then erupted to shoot 59.4 percent in the second half on 19-of-32 shooting. The Mastodons went 6-for-10 from long distance in the first half and 9-for-16 in the second half.
The ?Don's also owned the boards, finishing with a 42-29 advantage and committed just eight turnovers to the Jacks 17.
The Jacks return to action on Thursday, when they return home to face Summit League front-runner Western Illinois. The Leathernecks improved to 3-0 in league play with a 71-68 win over UMKC on Friday night in Macomb, Ill.
