TULSA, Okla. ? The South Dakota State men's tennis gutted out a 4-2 win over Centenary on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., at a Summit League cluster.
“It was an exciting win over Centenary today. We battled through injures and every player, win or lose, gutted out a tough match,” said SDSU head tennis coach Don Hanson. “We played well in both matches this weekend and we look forward to the Summit League cluster in Fort Wayne in a couple of weeks. I just hope we can get healthy by then. The team and I would also like to thank all of the parents who made the trip to Tulsa this weekend.”
Justin Pyle and defending Summit League player of the week Jeff Hughes picked-up straight set victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles for the Jacks, who improve to 6-10 in duals and 1-1 in Summit League play with the win. Corey Paluch dropped his second set of the day at No. 1 singles, but won the first and third sets to pick up the win, while Evan Sims won his first set at No. 6 singles in a tiebreaker before putting the match away with a convincing 6-0 win the second set.
The Jackrabbit men return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Omaha, to take on Creighton at 12:30 p.m. They return to Summit League play on April 9-11, when they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a Summit League cluster with matches against IUPUI, Oral Roberts, UMKC and Western Illinois on the slate.
