South Dakota State University's Trent Peterson has been named Summit League Men's Golfer of the Year in a vote by the league's 10 coaches.
A senior from Eagan, Minn., Peterson carded a school-record and league-best 72.5 scoring average over 32 rounds during the 2008-09 season and posted
eight top-10 individual finishes. He repeated as medalist at the Beu/Mussatto
Invitational hosted by league member Western Illinois and finished as runner-up at the Summit League
Championship to earn first-team all-league recognition. One of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award as the nation's top golfer scholar-athlete, Peterson capped his collegiate career by finishing in a tie for 13th place at the NCAA South Central Regional in Stillwater, Okla., last month.
Peterson earned Summit League Athlete of the Month honors for August/September 2008 after helping lead the Jackrabbits to team titles at the season-opening Fairway Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska and the Cleveland State Invitational.
In addition, Peterson was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large First Team in May.
