BOULDER CREEK, Nev. - The South Dakota State men's golf team won its home event - the Jackrabbit Invitational - for the third consecutive year Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. Three Jackrabbits placed in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard.Â
The Jackrabbits were in first place following the first two rounds, which were played Monday, and maintained its lead through the final 18 holes. SDSU posted an 847 (-17) team tally to finish ahead of Youngstown State by four shots.Â
"I tell the guys all the time how difficult it is to win in college golf and today was no different," said head coach
Parker Edens. "There's so many things that have to fall into place and today they did for the Jackrabbits!"
Tyler Seeling led the Jacks, finishing 6-under par for his 54 holes. The senior placed in a tie for second in the tournament, six shots behind Seamus Bogan of Morehead State, who finished first.Â
Ty Adkins and
Jacob Wilson finished in a tie for eighth place with matching -2 three-round scorecards.
Bryson Mercier and
Jake Olson shot even par to tie for 19th place. Olson tallied an eagle on hole five during the final lap.
"This group was extremely resilient this week and it paid off in the final holes today," Edens continued. "Jake birdied his last hole, Tyler birdied his last hole, Willy birdied his 17th, Bryson played his last 12 holes 3-under and Ty made a huge par on his 17th hole. They closed the day like champions and I'm so extremely proud of their fight this week!"
The Jackrabbits had four players competing individually.
Drew Teeter ended 2-over par to place tied 24th overall.
Caleb Kern finished in a tie for 28th (+4), tallying an eagle on hole 13 during the third lap.
Parker Brock finished tied for 50th (+9), followed by
Hayden Scott finished tied for 67th (+28).Â
NOTES
- SDSU finished ahead of all teams on par-4 holes, averaging 3.99 shots (-2).Â
- The Jackrabbits tallied a par score on 171 holes, the most of all participating teams.Â
UP NEXT
South Dakota State will compete in the Cowboy Classic hosted by the University of Wyoming March 31 through April 1st in Phoenix.Â
