Western team completes weekend sweep

Less than 24 hours after blanking the Sacred Heart Western
team 8-0, the South Dakota State Western squad defeated the Poineers 6-1 on Sunday
at the DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings.
Freshman Kelsey Champagne captured MVP honors in horsemanship for the second straight day after posting a 78, while junior Angela Gebhart did the same in reining, scoring a 72.5 on her way to MVP honors.
Gebhart also scored a point for the Jackrabbits in horsemanship, as did junior Britta Barta, who posted a 73.5 in horsemanship and a 69.5 in reining. Junior Lydia Placzek scored the Jacks other point in reining with a score of 71.
Alyssa Woronik scored the only Western point of the weekend for Sacred Heart with a Sunday score of 74.5 in horsemanship.
The Jackrabbit Western team returns to the ring next weekend for a show at North Dakota Sate on Saturday and Sunday.
