Life on the road continues this weekend for the South?Dakota State volleyball team with Summit League matches at IPFW?and at Oakland on the schedule.
The Jack split a home weekend with the Mastodons and the Golden Grizzlies just two weeks ago. The Jacks rallied to beat Oakland 3-1 on Friday, before falling to IPFW on Saturday 3-0.
The weekends splits continued last weekend, when the Jackrabbits hung on to beat Western Illinois 3-2 on Friday, thanks to a record-setting performance by Kelli Fiegen, who broke the SDSU record for hitting percentage in a five set match by hitting .593 (17-1-27). The Jacks could not close the weekend with a win though, falling at IUPUI?on Saturday 3-0.
Ellyce Youngren leads the Jackrabbit offense after 18 matches with 205 kills and with 21 service aces. Kelli Fiegen ranks second on the team with 190 kills, leads all hitters with a .357 hitting percentage, which includes and easily leads the team and with 86 total blocks, 26 solo and 60 block assists. Thyele Rechatiko handles the setting duties for the Jackrabbits and leads the team with eight double-doubles, while Shay Birath wears libero jersey and leads the Jackrabbit defense with 303 digs.
FIEGEN BREAKS FIVE SET RECORD - Middle blocker Kelli Fiegen broke the Jackrabbit record for hitting percentage in a five set match on Oct. 8, with 17 kills in 27 swings with just one error for an astounding .593 hitting percentage and led the Jacks to a 3-2 over Western Illinois in the process
Fiegen breaks the old mark of .550 (12-1-20) set by Kim Bostrom vs. Harding (Ark.), Aug. 31, 2002.

THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION
IPFW Mastodons (12-8, 7-2 Summit) - The defending Summit League Tournament champion Mastodons enter the week riding a five-match winning streak since dropping a five set match at home to UMKC on Sept. 25. In addition to a win over the Jacks, the streak includes a win over league favorite North Dakota State and a weekend sweep of Oral Roberts and Centenary last weekend at home.Â
Mayara Schlindwein leads the IPFW?offense with 261 kills and ranks third on the team with 53 total blocks. Alli Hook enters the week with 107 kills and adds a team-high 70 total blocks, including 18 solo and 52 block assists.
The first meeting vs. IPFW (10/2 at Frost?Arena) - It looked like it would be a short night for the SDSU volleyball team when they fell 25-16 in the first set of against IPFW, but the Jackrabbits battled to force extra points in the second set, only to fall again 28-26. The third set looked more like the first, as IPFW rolled to a 25-19 win and the 3-0 sweep of the Jackrabbits in front of 396 fans in Frost Arena.Â
The Series vs. IPFW - The Mastodons lead the all-time series 9-3, including wins in each of the last five meetings. The last Jackrabbit win in the series came on Nov. 17, 2007, when the Jacks downed the 'Dons 3-2 to win The Summit League Tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Oakland Golden Grizzlies (10-10, 5-4 Summit) - The Golden Grizzlies, who host North Dakota State on Friday, enter the week after a weekend sweep of Oral Roberts and Centenary, both by the same 3-0 score. The pair of wins snapped a three-match losing streak that included road losses against the Jackrabbits and Bison.
Meghan Bray leads a balances Oakland offense with 198 kills, but does so with a .150 hitting percentage (198-109-592). She also leads the team with 19 service aces. Brittany Dunn leads the Grizzlies with 333 digs,?Ashley Nevelle leads them with 605 set assists, while Brittany Holbrook leads the team with 62 total blocks to go with her 127 kills.
The first meeting vs. Oakland (10/1 at Frost?Arena) - Late rallies in both the second and fourth sets lifted South Dakota State past Oakland in front of 441 Frost Arena Faithful, as the Jackrabbits downed the Golden Grizzlies 3-1. Â
The Series vs. Oakland - The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 5-2. SDSU dropped just one set in sweeping the season series in both 2007 and 2008. Oakland swept the season series in 2009 with a 3-2 win in Rochester, Mich., and a 3-0 sweep at Frost Arena.
NEXT UP FOR THE JACKRABBITS - The Jackrabbits return home after a two week road swing for three matches next week, starting with Drake on Tuesday, followed by Summit League matches against IUPUI?and Western Illinois. The Jacks and Bulldogs start at 6 p.m., while both league matches begin at 7 p.m.  Â
