The South Dakota State volleyball team completed weekend sweep with a dominating 3-0 sweep of Western Illinois in front of a loud Hobo Day crowd of 1,197, the largest crowd to see a volleyball match at SDSU since 1,301 fans showed up for a match against North Dakota State on Nov. 4, 2006.
The Jackrabbits improve to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in The Summit League by the set scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-18. The Fighting Leathernecks fall to 6-16 overall and 2-11 in league play with the loss.
Kelli Fiegen continued her dominance in leading the Jacks with 12 kills, and did so in 20 swings with just one error for a .550 hitting percentage. Kaitlin Klingemann added nine kills and hit .471 (9-1-17) in the win.
Allison Gilbert led Western with eight kills in the loss.
The Jacks pretty much dominated the match from the beginning, as the match saw just a total of five ties and two lead changes.
SDSU used an 8-0 run to run away with the first set, a 6-0 run to pull away in the second set and a 7-1 run to close the third set.
The Jackrabbit return to the road for the final time next weekend with match at Southern Utah and at UMKC on the slate.
The Thunderbirds welcome the Jacks on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT, while the Kangaroos host the Jacks on Saturday at 7 p.m.
