The South Dakota State volleyball team plays its next five matches on the road, three of them this week, and the Jackrabbits open the five-game stretch against one of the toughest teams on the schedule in No. 14 Northern Iowa on Wednesday in?Cedar Falls, Iowa. From there, the Jacks travel to Macomb, Ill., on Friday to take on?Western Illinois and to Indianapolis, Ind., on Saturday to take on IUPUI. All three matches start at 7 p.m. local time.  Â
The Jackrabbits return to the road after splitting a home weekend with a 3-1 win over Oakland on Friday, followed by a 3-0 loss to IPFW on?Saturday at Frost Arena.Â
Bailey Philippot led the Jacks with 20 kills over the weekend and did so with a .314 hitting percentage (20-4-51). Kelli Fiegen recorded just one fewer kill than Philippot, but did so with an impressive .457 hitting percentage (19-3-35). Setter Thyele Rechatiko posted a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, but all of the Jacks stellar stats only resulted in one win, thanks in large part to the hot-hitting Mastodons, who hit .302 as a team on Saturday night, all while holding the Jacks to a .182 hitting percentage, almost 40 points lower than their season average.
Ellyce Youngren leads the Jackrabbit offense after 15 matches with 176 kills and with 17 service aces. Kelli Fiegen ranks second on the team with 160 kills, leads all hitters with a .352 hitting percentage and easily leads the team and with 78 total blocks, 23 solo and 55 block assists. Fiegen's 1.32 blocks per set average also ranks 21st in the nation. Thyele Rechatiko handles the setting duties for the Jackrabbits, while Shay Birath wears libero jersey.

No. 14 Northern Iowa (14-2, 6-0 Valley) - The Panthers moved from?No. 15 to No. 14 in this week's AVCA?Coach's poll after posting Missouri Valley wins at home over Evansville and Southern Illinois. The two wins give the Panthers nine straight wins heading into Wednesday's match with the Jackrabbits.
Michelle Burow leads UNI offense with 191 kills and with a .334 hitting percentage. Ellie Blankenship leads the Panthers with 315 digs and enters the week tied for the team lead with 12 service aces. Bre Payton handles the setting duties for the Panthers and Krista DeGeese leads the team with 73 total blocks.  Â
The Series vs. Northern Iowa - The Panthers lead the all-time series 2-0 after downing the Jacks in each of the last two seasons. UNI won the first meeting 3-1 on Sept. 23, 2008 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and won 3-0 last year on Oct. 28, in Frost?Arena.
Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks (5-10, 2-5 Summit) - The Leathernecks ride a five-match losing streak into Friday's match with the Jackrabbits after falling to Southern Utah, 3-2 and to UMKC, 3-1 on the road this weekend. Proving the parody in the league this season, one of Western's wins came against IPFW, who beat league favorite North Dakota State on?Friday in?Fargo, N.D.
Allison Gilbert leads the WIU offense with 186 kills. Bridget Murphy leads the team with 179 digs, while Heather Smith, with 435 assists, handles the majority of the setting duties. Ellen Miller ranks second on the team with 141 set assists and with 179 digs, while Cait Egan leads the team with a .271 hitting percentage (131-39-339) and with 45 total blocks, 16 solo and 45 block assists.
The Series vs. Western Illinois - The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 6-1 including a semifinal win in the 2007 Summit League Tournament. The lone Leathernecks win came on Nov. 1, 2008, a 3-0 sweep in Macomb, Ill.
IUPUI?Jaguars (4-14, 3-4 Summit) - The Jaguars enter the week after splitting a Summit League weekend, winning 3-1 at UMKC on Thursday before falling 3-1 at Southern Utah on?Saturday.
Lindsey Weber and Kalyse Reimbold lead the Jaguar offense with 168 kills and 164 kills, respectively, but Reimbold also adds a team-high 23 service aces. Alexis Meeks does the setting for IUPUI and Shari Bernhardt leads the team with 484 digs.
The Series vs. IUPUI - The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 4-2. The Jacks swept the season series in 2007, but split with the Jaguars in both the 2008 and 2009 seasons, including a pair of five-set thrillers in 2008.
NEXT UP FOR THE JACKRABBITS - The Jackrabbits remain on the road next weed with matches at IPFW?and at Oakland on the schedule. The Jacks fell in straight sets to the Mastodons in the first meeting of the season on Oct. 2, but beat Oakland 3-1, on Oct. 1, both at Frost Arena.
