KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ashley Eide and Kristin Rotert each scored 17 points and Katie Lingle posted her first career double-double as the South Dakota State University women's basketball team ended its longest losing streak in 24 years, pulling away for an 81-59 road victory over UMKC in Summit League action Friday afternoon at Swinney Recreation Center.Â
The Jackrabbits improved to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in league play as they ended a five-game losing streak. UMKC moved to 5-9 overall, 0-4 in The Summit League.
SDSU led nearly the entire game, taking the lead for good at 7-6 on a jumper by Kristin Rotert. That basket started a 12-0 Jackrabbit run over a five-minute span that ended with an Eide three-pointer.
The Jackrabbit lead ballooned to 14 in the first half at 27-13 on another Eide three-pointer at the 8-minute, 25-second mark. SDSU led 36-27 at the half.
UMKC cut the margin to eight in the opening minute of the second half, but could get no closer the rest of the way as the Jackrabbits continued to hit from three-point range early in the second stanza and .
SDSU was efficient offensively throughout, shooting 27-for-60 from the field, 45 percent, including 10-of-19 from beyond the arc. At the line, the Jackrabbits made 17-of-23 attempts for 73.9 percent.
Lingle, making her first career start, completed a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds as SDSU held a 42-37 edge on the boards.
The Kangaroos finished the day 23-of-64 from the field, 35.9 percent, including a 4-for-13 effort from long range. UMKC converted 9-of-14 free throw attempts for 64.3 percent.
Eilise O'Connor led UMKC with 14 points. Sam Sikkink added 11 points off the bench after sinking three three-pointers.
SDSU returns to action Jan. 8, hosting Oral Roberts (Okla.) in a rematch of last season's Summit League championship game. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. at Frost Arena.
NOTES: SDSU leads the all-time series 7-1 ... SDSU's 81 points were the most by the Jackrabbits since they tallied 87 in the season opener against Utah Valley ... the Jackrabbits used their fifth starting lineup of the season...
