ORLANDO, FLA. - A pair of wins has the South Dakota State men's tennis team riding high as they begin their second week down south.
On March 7th, the Jacks lost 6-1 to Sacred Heart (Conn.) with the only win coming in No. 2 singles as Dominic Rossetto beat Chris Ujkic in the three set thriller 4-6, 7-6, 14-12. Ujkic won the deciding match at Sacred Heart's conference final last season to get them to the NCAA tournament.
The next best chance SDSU had was in No. 5 singles as Justin Pyle dropped a three set match 6-7, 6-3, 4-10 to Mike Syer.

On March 8th, Fairfield (Conn.) handed the Jacks their second straight 6-1 defeat. Corey Paluch won 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles while Jamie Dash and Rossetto claimed a No. 1 doubles victory 9-7.
"Rossetto and Dash continue to play brilliant doubles and have shown they can play against any team in the country," said SDSU head coach Don Hanson. "Rossetto has had a tough battle every match and we are expecting him to turn the corner any day and become a key piece in Summit League play."

On Tuesday, the Jackrabbits got of the schneid with a 4-3 win over Boston University. Hanson said that the match was all about Sims and Rossetto.
"Sims stepped up and solidified his spot in the line up with a big win. The team was waiting for someone to step up and he seems to be the man. I'm excited about using Evan the rest of the season.
Rossetto was the only SDSU player left on the court with the match tied at three before pulling out a three set 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
"He handled the
pressure perfectly and has made both coaches proud," Hanson said. "The team as a whole has
really put themselves on the map with this win."

On Wednesay, the Jacks continued their winning ways with a 5-2 win over SIU-Edwardsville. Pyle, Rossetto and Dash each won in straight sets while Evan Sims won his No. 6 singles match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Rossetto and Dash would again team up in No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win with Paluch and Sims winning No. 2 singles 8-5.
Hanson said that the team is very thrilled with the win. "Considering SIUE has defeated teams in the Summit League Conference, the team looks to utilize this win to catalyze their way through the conference"
"This match proved we can play and beat anyone in our conference. We look to go on a three game match winning streak tomorrow against St. Joe's."
"We defeated them last year and hope to do the same
this year. Leadership and confidence is spreading through the entire
mens line up," Hanson said.
