LINCOLN, Neb. -- The South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 193-99 decision at Nebraska Saturday afternoon.
A deep Cornhuskers squad won all 13 events in which they competed without exhibitions, with nine different individuals winning events. Two-time winners for Nebraska were Payton Michaud, who swept the diving events, and Hayley Martin, who won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
For the Jackrabbits, Ashley Valdez claimed the 100-yard butterfly in 58.96 seconds and swam the leadoff leg on the 400 freestyle relay that closed the meet with a top time of 3 minutes, 42.35 seconds. Morgan McLain added a top time of 2:11.04 in the 200 individual medley, while Samantha Fossum turned in a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:09.88.
SDSU, 0-2 in duals this season, opens the home portion of its schedule with two home meets, hosting a double dual against North Dakota and Western Illinois at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. dual next Saturday (Oct. 29) against Iowa State. Friday's dual also will feature the men's squad in action.
