HONOLULU - The South Dakota State softball team split a pair of games on Sunday at the Hawaii Invitational, dropping a 4-3, 10 inning game against Weber State before downing St. Bonaventure 8-3 in a rain-shortened five inning consolation championship.
The split gives the Jacks a 2-11 record heading into Wednesday's doubleheader with Miami (Ohio). St. Bonaventure falls to 0-4 on the season.
SDSU scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead over Weber State first game of the day, but the Wildcats tied it up in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings.
The Jackrabbits took another one run lead in the top of the ninth, but Weber State answered, thus forcing a tenth and final inning, where the Wildcats plated one run to win the game 6-5 in 10 innings.
Krista Honken led the Jacks with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, including a double and an RBI. Ashley Durazo went 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot and scored a run.
Kori Seidlitz started for the Jacks in the circle, giving up four runs on six hits over 5.2 innings pitched with four walks and four strikeouts before turning things over to Pam Nicholson. She pitched the final 3.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts.
Honken stayed hot into the second game, going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Along with picking up her first win in the circle, Seidlitz went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, a sacrifice, and RBI and two runs scored. She also gave up three runs on six hits in four innings pitched with a pair of walks and a strikeout.
The Jacks get two days off to enjoy the nation's 50th state before returning to action on Wednesday against the Redhawks at 9 a.m. HAT.
