FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Another strong pitching performance from IPFW standout Courtney Cronin led the Mastodons to a series sweep over South Dakota State on Sunday, as the senior hurled her third straight shutout in a 10-0 win over the Jackrabbits.
SDSU falls to 4-9 overall with the loss, and to 0-3 in Summit League play, while IPFW improves to 15-4 overall and to 3-0 in league play.
Devon Reick opened the game with an infield single and advanced to second on an Emily Weber sacrifice bunt to get a runner into scoring position. Alex Landon came up next and got hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out, but Cronin sat down the next two Jackrabbits in order, and did not allow a base runner for the rest of the game.
IPFW scored all the runs it would need in the second, and then made it 3-0 with a single run in the third, before putting the game away with a seven run fourth inning.
The Jackrabbits look to get back on the winning track on Friday, when they travel o Macomb, Ill., to open a three game Summit League series at Western Illinois. The Jacks and Fighting Leathernecks start a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m.
