OMAHA, Neb. – Nov. 12 – Marissa Janning gave Creighton a 61-59 lead with 47 seconds remaining as the Bluejays closed Tuesday's nonconference game with a 10-4 run to hand South Dakota State a 68-63 loss at the D.J. Sokol Arena.
The Jacks, now 0-2, were led by senior Steph Paluch (Pierre) as she scored 17 points. Â Junior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) added 12 points while junior Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) recorded 11 points.
SDSU used a 7-0 run to take a 59-58 lead when Clarin scored with 2:40 remaining. Unfortunately, the Jackrabbits turned the ball over on back-to-back possessions.
Janning had a game-high 20 points, including eight of Creighton's last 10 points.
The Jackrabbits outrebounded Creighton, 39-26. Senior Hannah Strop (New Prague, Minn.) recorded a game-high eight rebounds while Clarin snared seven. Â Junior Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.) led SDSU with seven assists and two steals.
SDSU plays its home opener Friday when the Jacks meet Georgetown at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena.
