"Big Five" Opponent on Tap
-Coming off its first regular-season tournament title since 2005, the South Dakota State women's basketball team faces No. 25 Arkansas from the SEC, one of the power conferences in the NCAA, Thursday at 7 p.m. in Fayetteville, Ark.
-The Jackrabbits, 4-2, enter the week on a modest three-game winning streak after winning the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up in Las Vegas, Nev., this past weekend. They beat Northern Illinois, 55-42, and host UNLV, 65-59.Â
-Senior Mariah Clarin posted a career- and game-high 22 points and a game- and season-high 14 rebounds, earning tournament MVP honors.
-Arkansas ran its record to 6-0 with a pair of wins in Las Vegas this past weekend and earned a No. 25 AP ranking. The Razorbacks upset then-No. 17/16 Iowa, 77-67, and defeated Richmond, 74-55, to win the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. They are one of 28 undefeated D-I teams so far this season. Additionally, Arkansas has won 28 consecutive nonconference games and is 4-0 at home.
-Thursday's game marks the first meeting between South Dakota State and Arkansas.
Noteworthy
-SDSU won its first regular-season tournament since winning the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational at Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo., Nov. 25-27, 2005. It beat the host Rams and UC Irvine.
-The Jackrabbits are playing their second consecutive first-time opponent in the Razorbacks and their second ranked team of the season.
-Megan Waytashek has scored in double figures in four of six games, made at least one three-point field goal in 14 of her last 18 games and enters Thursday's game with 1,040 career points and is three points shy of passing Ketty Cornemann and moving into 31st.
-South Dakota State is 1-1 in nonconference road games this season.
