WATERLOO, Iowa -- South Dakota State opened its weekend roadtrip with a 6-1 loss to Northern Iowa Friday afternoon. Iasmin Rosa picked up the lone with for the Jacks, as the freshman won No. 3 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
"Today was another day where it came down to one or two points in most matches," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We need to make sure we handle losing points better and we will be able to turn these types of matches in our favor."
Florencia Magni dropped the No. 1 position 7-5, 6-1, while Jenny Blackburne did the same in the No. 2 slot 6-4, 7-6.
Ffion Davies, Beatriz Souza and Tacy Haws-Lay dropped their respective matches 6-3, 7-5, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles, Blackburne/Davies fell 8-4, while Rosa/Magni dropped their decision 8-5. Souza/Tiffany Filipovich also fell 8-3.
The Jacks return to action tomorrow vs. Upper Iowa.
