INDIANAPOLIS -- Iasmins Rosa and Elif Gabb both picked up wins Friday evening, but South Dakota State (0-1, 0-0 Summit) fell to Butler in its season debut, 5-2.
"We fought hard today and had our chances," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We didn't have the right mindset coming in and had some first-match jitters."
Rosa won #2 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Gabb recorded her first dual win as a Jackrabbit in #6 singles 6-3, 7-6 (4).
SDSU's duo of Ffion Davies and Rosa also picked up a win in #1 singles 6-4, but dropped the doubles point and Beatriz Souza/Tacy Haws-Lay and Florencia Magni/Gabb both dropped their respective decisions.
"As a team of upperclassmen, we have to get better at using our experience to our advantage," Engdahl added.
SDSU continues its road trip tomorrow at at Saint Francis at 3:30.
