SAN ANTONIO -- South Dakota State (0-2, 0-0 Summit) won the doubles point, but only picked up one victory in singles, as it fell to Incarnate Word, 5-2 Friday evening.
SDSU won #1 and #3 doubles and Henrique Pereira added a win at #3 singles.
"We have no reason to hang our heads from today," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We were focused and ready to play from ball one. We fought hard and played smart tennis."
In #1 doubles, Andrea Boglic/Parker Lawley won 6-3, while Jonny Higham/Lovro Curcija won by the same score in the #3 position.
Junior Henrique Pereira picked up the lone singles win for the Jacks by a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 margin.
"The thing that got us today was the competitive exposure and match play we don't get in Brookings," Engdahl added. However, that's why we made the trip to Texas and we will focus on that throughout the weekend."
The Jacks return to action Sunday at Prairie View A&M at 11 a.m.
