BROOKINGS, S.D. --The South Dakota State University women's basketball team completed its exhibition season Thursday night with an 85-40 win over the University of Mary in front of 1,365 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits, who went 2-0 in the exhibition season, were led by sophomore forward Ellie Thompson (Chaska, Minn.) and her game-high 18 points. Freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) added 16 points while sophomore guard Alexis Alexander (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored 12 points and junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) contributed 11 points and a team-high 5 assists. Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) snared a game-high nine rebounds.
South Dakota State opened the game with a 12-2 run as sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) scored five points. The Jacks led 21-14 after the first quarter and 36-22 at halftime.
The Jacks opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 43-22 lead before pushing the lead to 28, 55-27, when Ober scored with 3:10 to play in the third quarter. Guebert sank her third 3-point field goal of the game to give SDSU a 63-29 lead with 15 seconds left in the quarter.
Guebert made two more 3-point field goals in the fourth quarter as the Jacks outscored Mary 22-11.
SDSU opens the regular season by playing Marist at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at Frost Arena.
