DENVER, COLO. — A day after No. 67 Denver snapped its win streak at seven matches, the South Dakota State women's tennis team responded with a dominate 7-0 victory over Metro State at the Regency Athletic Complex.
"The girls took care of business today," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We need to be careful we don't have a dip in focus and intensity this week in practice as we prepare for USD this upcoming weekend."
The Jackrabbits won every singles match in straight sets. Iasmin Rosa cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first singles while Ffion Davies recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory in her first second singles match since March 14.
At third singles, Florencia Magni won handily, 6-4, 6-0 while Tacy Haws-Lay posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fifth singles. Beatriz Souza and Elif Gabb each won her 10th singles match of the spring season, with Souza winning, 6-0, 6-1, at fourth singles and Gabb cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
South Dakota State won the doubles point on the strength of victories at first and third doubles. Rosa and Davies combined to win their 11th first doubles match of the season, 8-1, while Magni and Gabb posted a 8-2 victory at third doubles.
The Jackrabbits improved to 10-6 (2-1 SL) with the win. They return to the court Saturday, April 11 when they host rival South Dakota in their only home match of the 2015 campaign at Hillcrest Park.
