MINNEAPOLIS—Seniors Lovro Curcija and Henrique Pereira won their singles matches, but the South Dakota State men's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season, 5-2, to DePaul Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
"I couldn't be more proud of the way the boys competed today. We executed everything we talked about all week and had a good look at beating a very strong team in DePaul," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "It doesn't get any easier from here as we take on the Big 10 champs tomorrow. Even though we didn't get the end result we wanted today we definitely rose to the challenge. We will need to do the same tomorrow."
Curcija, who moved from No. 4 singles to No. 1 singles, defeated last year's BIG EAST All-league pick and Freshman of the Year Alex Galoustian, 7-6, 6-2.
Pereira picked up the Jackrabbits second point with a 6-4, 6-5 win at No. 5 singles over Paul John.
The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday when they play No. 23 Minnesota at 4 p.m.
