Reichow earns All-American honors in consecutive seasons

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana—South Dakota State senior Joel Reichow added another All-American honor to his résumé on Saturday after finishing 20th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

"I felt a lot more comfortable this season," said Reichow. "I think that allowed me to be more consistent, and it's good to be able to prove it. I thought I could have done a little bit better. I was hoping to finish in the top 10, but I outperformed what a lot of people expected from me."

On a cold and windy day, Reichow toed the line as an individual qualifier. The race was very tight at the beginning with the entire field within 20 seconds of each other as late as the 3K mark. Reichow remained with the lead pack for the duration of the 10K race, finishing in 30:11.5 for 20th place in the field of 256 runners. The senior from White Bear Lake, Minn., led the Jacks all season long, recording a runner-up finish at The Summit League Championship and a third-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Last year, Reichow captured All-American status with a 36th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. He came back in 2016 more comfortable and healthy to go along with aspirations to repeat as an All-American.

Reichow becomes the second SDSU male cross country athlete with multiple Division-I All-American honors, and he is the first to complete the feat in back-to-back seasons.
