CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—Tough defense and a pair of double-doubles helped the South Dakota State women's basketball team to a 61-50 win over Northern Iowa Thursday night in front of 529 fans in the McLeod Center.

The Jackrabbits, 5-1, have now held three opponents to 50-or-less points this season.

Junior
Ellie Thompson had a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth career double-double. Senior
Clarissa Ober tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth career double-double and second of the season.

Kennedy Kirkpatrick and Madison Weekly had 10 points each to lead Northern Iowa (4-3).

The Jackrabbits used a 12-2 run in the first quarter to take a 14-5 lead. Thompson and Ober each tallied four points in the run. The SDSU defense held UNI scoreless for the quarter's final 5:24.

The Panthers came back in the second quarter with their own run, scoring the first nine points. SDSU answered with an 11-0 run to take an 11-point lead, 25-14, with 2:46 left in the half. UNI closed the quarter by scoring five-straight points.

SDSU used a 12-2 run to open the second half.
Madison Guebert and
Kerri Young hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap the run and put State up 37-21. The Jackrabbits' biggest lead came with 3:28 left in the quarter when Thompson's layup put the Jacks ahead 45-27.

Ober gave South Dakota State its largest lead of the game, 61-38, on a layup with 4:23 to play in the game.

Notes
- The last time two Jackrabbits posted double-doubles in the same game was March 4, 1995. Gina Mouw had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Leah Klaassen had 13 points and 10 rebounds against Augustana.
- Kerri Young now needs 16 points to become the 35th Jackrabbit to score 1,000 career points.
- Macy Miller is 15 points shy of 30th on the all-time scoring list.
- SDSU's starting lineup of Kerri Young, Macy Miller, Madison Guebert, Ellie Thompson and Clarissa Ober is 32-8 as a lineup.
