GRAND FORKS, North Dakota—
Macy Miller and
Madison Guebert led the South Dakota State women's basketball team to an 83-72 win at North Dakota Tuesday night in a nonleague game front of 1,448 fans in the Betty Engelstad Sports Center.
Miller led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line. Guebert tallied 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field, including sinking 6 of 12 3-pointers.
Ellie Thompson was the other Jackrabbit in double digits with 12 points and a game-high 8 rebounds.
Fallyn Freije led North Dakota (2-5) with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
After a slow start in the first quarter, the Jackrabbits closed the half on a 13-5 run for a 21-14 lead. Guebert hit three of her four first half 3-pointers to start the run.
SDSU built a 13-point lead, 34-21, in the second quarter when Thompson and Guebert sank back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 10-3 run. The Fighting Hawks scored the next seven points to cut the Jackrabbits' lead to six, 36-30 with 2:58 left in the first half.
Sydney Tracy hit a 3-pointer with five second remaining to give State a 43-33 lead at halftime.
North Dakota cut the Jacks' lead to five points, 45-40, early in the third quarter, but Guebert sank a 3-pointer and Young added a jumper to push the lead to 10, 50-40. SDSU had an 11-point lead with just over 50 seconds left in the third quarter, but Freije sank a 3-pointer with 36 seconds remaining to make it an 8-point game.
After a jumper by
Clarissa Ober to open the final quarter, the Fighting Hawks hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull within four, 61-57, with 8:38 left. The Jackrabbits then went 13 of 14 from the foul line to seal the win and improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in road games this season.

- The last time two Jackrabbits each scored 20-plus points in the same game was Mar. 5, 2016, when Macy Miller and Kerri Young each scored 20 vs. Fort Wayne.
- Kerri Young moved into 33rd in career scoring with 1,010 points.
- Macy Miller took over 30th with 1,107 points.
- Madison Guebert has 3-or-more 3-pointers in six of eight games.
- South Dakota State head coach Aaron Johnston is now one win away from 400 career wins.
