BROOKINGS, S.D.—Feb. 6, 2016—The South Dakota State University women's basketball used an 8-0 run midway through the first quarter and never looked back while defeating North Dakota State 81-47 Saturday afternoon in front of 3,236 fans at Frost Arena in The Summit League play.
The Jackrabbits, now 19-4 overall and 9-1 in league play, had four players score in double figures. Junior forward Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with game-high totals of 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked four shots. Sophomore guard Macy Miller (Mitchell) added 15 points and a game-high six assists while freshman guard Madison Guebert (Apple Valley, Minn.) netted 14 points. Junior guard Kerri Young (Mitchell) scored 11 points, 9 of those coming in the second half. The Jackrabbits made 35 of 65 field goals (53.8 percent) in the contest.
North Dakota State, which falls to 6-18, 1-10, was led by Marena Whittle's 14 points. Emily Spier and Taylor Thunstedt added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Four different Jackrabbits scored during the 8-0 first-quarter run that gave SDSU a 13-5 lead. South Dakota State pushed the lead to 19-9 when Miller scored with 45 seconds left in the quarter. Whittle scored before the buzzer to make the score 19-11 after the opening quarter.
Whittle scored the second quarter's first basket before the Jackrabbits scored 16 unanswered points for a 35-13 lead when Miller scored with 2:30 left in the half. SDSU held a 40-20 lead at halftime. Ober and Miller each scored 11 points in the first 20 minutes.
South Dakota State eventually pushed its lead to 38 points, the last time being 74-36 with 5:32 remaining.
The Jackrabbits will play Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Thursday at Frost Arena.
