ORLANDO, Fla.—For the third time this season, senior Ffion Davies came through to help the South Dakota State women's tennis team defeat Norfolk State, 4-3, Friday.
With the match tied at 3-3, Davies beat Marta Gomar, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. With the win, the Jackrabbits improve to 10-5 on the season while Norfolk State falls to 2-8.
"Anytime you are down 3-1 in the match and come back to win 4-3, it feels good and shows guts. We have been through a lot of ups and downs this year and a match like this certainly gives us confidence going into Summit League play," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "I am proud of the team we are becoming and the second half of the season is going to be exciting."
SDSU fell behind 1-0 after dropping the doubles point. Davies and junior Iasmin Rosa won at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, to improve to 11-4 overall and extend their winning streak to six matches.
Senior Beatriz Souza tied the match with a 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, but the Spartans won the next two matches at No. 6 and No. 4 singles to take a 3-1 lead.
