BROOKINGS, S.D.—Riding a five-match winning streak, the South Dakota State men's tennis team returns to the road this week when it plays two matches in North Carolina.
The Jackrabbits play at North Carolina A&T Thursday at 2 p.m. and finish at North Carolina Central at 11 Saturday.
"The team has built some great momentum going into our spring break trip. We have had nothing but great practices and matches the last few weeks so I am excited to see how far we can push ourselves," sixth-year head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We don't know a lot about the teams we will be facing, which will be very refreshing. I know everyone is excited and focused on the right things. It should be a great 10 days of tennis."
SDSU is coming off a pair of shutouts, defeating William Jewell and North Dakota Feb. 27 in its first home matches of the season.
The Jacks have won the doubles point in the last five matches, dropping just 3 of 15 matches.
Junior Lucas Pereira has a five-match winning streak with records of 4-3 at No. 5 and 1-0 at No. 6. Senior Mateus Moreira has also won his last five matches, posting a 4-4 record at No. 4 and 1-0 mark at No. 3.
Sophomore Marco Paulo Castro has lost just once in dual action, sporting a 4-1 record at No. 5 and No. 6. He ranks third in The Summit League in all singles wins and first at No. 6.
The doubles team of junior Jonny Higham and Castro are 3-0 at No. 3 and 1-0 at No. 2. The duo has won its last four matches and is the top doubles team in The Summit League overall and at No. 3 doubles.
