Ashley Beaner led the South Dakota State volleyball team in kills in a 3-0 loss to Stephen F. Austin Friday evening. The Jackrabbits lost 25-10, 25-21 and 25-15 in the Green Bay Tournament in the Kress Center.

With the loss, SDSU falls to 0-2 while Stephen F. Austin improves to 2-0.

"We are staring adversity in the face and doing all that we can," second-year head coach
Nicole Cirillo said. "One step at a time and as long as we continue to grow and learn from our mistakes, I'm okay with the process we went through today."

Beaner, who collected 11 kills vs. Green Bay, had 10 kills and tied a season high with seven digs. Freshman Mckenzie Hennen hit .250 with eight kills. Junior
Ellie Benson added a match-high 13 digs.

Abby McIntyre led SFA with 12 kills while hitting .800. Peyton Redmond added 7 kills and 10 digs. Lexus Cain also had 10 digs. The Ladyjacks hit .418 for the match.

SFA came out swinging in the first set, racing to an 11-3 lead with McIntyre recording four kills in the run. The Jackrabbits were limited offensively, hitting -.069 in the set.

The Jackrabbits had a shot in the second set after taking Stephen F. Austin to a 16-16 tie. The Ladyjacks then scored the next three points on a kill and back-to-back aces to take a 19-16 lead. After pushing the lead to 21-18, senior
Nazya Thies made it 22-19 with a kill. The teams traded back-to-back kills with Beaner before blocking the Jackrabbits' last attack for the win.

A 7-1 run midway through the third set by the Ladyjacks gave them a 19-9 lead. The Jackrabbits fought back, outscoring SFA 6-5 down the stretch with kills from freshman
Emilia Czapiewska, Hennen and Beaner, but it wasn't enough.

The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday when they play Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m.
