The South Dakota State volleyball team opens its 51st volleyball campaign Friday when it plays host Green Bay at 12:30 p.m. in the first of three matches at the Green Bay Invitational in the 4,016-seat Kress Events Center in Green Bay, Wis. The Jackrabbits follow the opener with matches against Stephen F. Austin at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Eastern Illinois Saturday at 1 p.m.

SDSU opens the season on the road for the ninth-straight year. The Jackrabbits went 0-3 in the 2015 season opener at the Northern Illinois Tournament in DeKalb, Ill.

Setting the Scene
- South Dakota State opens its 51st season overall and 12th in the Division I era. The Jackrabbits sport an 887-650-8 all-time record and 168-209 mark in Division I play.
- SDSU makes it first trip to the Badger State since playing in the Green Bay Classic in 2009. The Jackrabbits play the Phoenix for the fifth time. SDSU won the last match in Frost Arena Sept. 7, 2012. State will be looking for its first win over Stephen F. Austin as the teams meet for the third consecutive season. South Dakota State and Eastern Illinois meet for the second time after the Panthers defeated the Jacks at the Drake Invitational in 2013.

Opening Success
- The Jackrabbits are 31-19 in season openers, including a 17-13 mark in neutral site openers. South Dakota State's last neutral site victory to open a season was Aug. 24, 2012, when it beat Southwest Missouri State, 3-0, in the Hawkeye Challenge.

- The 2016 SDSU volleyball roster features 14 players from seven states. Of the 14 players, four are from South Dakota, three from Minnesota and Nebraska and one each from Colorado, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin. By class, the Jacks have six seniors, a junior, two sophomores and five freshmen.
