FARGO, N.D.—Senior
Ashley Beaner was in double digits in kills for the fifth consecutive match, but it wasn't enough as the South Dakota State volleyball team lost 25-18, 25-17 and 25-21 Friday morning to Texas Tech at the NDSU Classic in Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Beaner had a match-high 15 kills, 8 digs and a match-high 5 block assists. Junior
Ellie Benson had a team-best 14 kills and senior
Nazya Thies 10 kills. Sophomore
Sierra Peterson registered four kills and a match-high five block assists.

Toni McDougald led Texas Tech (2-2) with 11 kills and hit .346. Reyn Akiu had a match-high 15 digs.

There were four ties in the third set before Texas Tech took a 21-15 lead after a 6-0 run. The Jackrabbits (1-4) came back to make it 24-21 after four kills by Beaner, freshmen
Ashlynn Smith and
Makenzie Hennen and Red Raider errors. Texas Tech finished the match on a kill.

In a set of streaks, SDSU took an early 5-3 lead in the second set on three kills from Beaner and a block from Beaner and Peterson. The set was tied 8-8 before Texas Tech used a 10-4 run to lead 13-9. A Red Raider error, a Peterson kill and a Peterson and Beaner block brought the Jacks within one, 13-12.

A 5-0 run by Texas Tech gave it an 18-12 lead, but the Jackrabbits came back with a 4-0 run to pull within two, 18-16. The Red Raiders responded with a 7-1 run for the win.

The Jackrabbits opened the first set on fire, taking a 6-3 lead after Beaner had three kills while Hennen and Smith added kills and Texas Tech committed errors. The Red Raiders came back with an 8-1 run to take a 13-10 lead. They extended the lead to 17-13 before outscoring SDSU 8-5 for the win.

South Dakota State returns to action this evening when it plays Northern Illinois at 4:30 p.m.
