The South Dakota State men's heptathlon team finished up the last three events to end day two of the SDSU Holiday Open. Sophomore
Evan Hieber lead the Jackrabbits, finishing sixth out of 10 competitors.
DAY 2 RECAP
The first event of the morning was the 60m hurdles, as junior
Peter Bates lead the race for the Jacks, finishing sixth (8.88).
Evan Hieber recorded eighth in a new personal-best time of 9.03. Following the 60m hurdles, Hieber recorded a new personal-best in the pole vault, clearing 10-08.00.
In the last event of the afternoon, senior
Brady Brockel topped 2:51.62 in the 1,000m and finishing in fourth.Â
As the heptathlon concluded, Hieber ended up taking sixth with a new personal-best score of 4,561, topping his previous best by two points. Bates ended up finishing eighth (4,461), also beating his previous personal-best. Brockel competed in his first heptathlon, scoring 4,304 points and placing ninth.
DAY 1 RECAP
The South Dakota State track and field teams had a successful day at the SDSU Holiday Open with 17 new personal records and seven event records broken, including one SJAC record.

The afternoon started out with seniorÂ
Vanessa Lane gathering 3,560 points in the women's pentathlon for a team-best fifth-place finish. Lane led the team in four of five events, placing the highest in the shot put where she launched one 41-04.50.

Sara Bohan also competed in the women's pentathlon, gathering a new personal-best in the 60m hurdles (9.54).

Allison Sebern led the charge for the Jackrabbits in the 800m run, finishing second (2:24.83).

On the men's side, they competed in four of the seven-heptathlon events, finishing the rest tomorrow morning. SophomoreÂ

Each of the multi-ers traded off scoring, as Brockel lead the 60m with a third-place finish (7.26). Bates (7.45) and Hieber (7.50) tied for their career-bests in the 60m. Hieber ended up winning the shot put (40-03.50) and placing second in the high jump (6-06.75). Bates threw the shot put a personal-best 32-05.75 to finish 10th in the shot put.

Colton Bender took the first-place spot in the weight throw (65-00.75) while unattached thrower,Â
Logan Ammonsadded a new personal-best in the weight (59-05.75).

In the shot put, South Dakota thrower Jacob Barents broke the event record (57-04.75) while redshirt-freshmanÂ
Max Reinke led the Jackrabbits for a seventh-place finish and a new career-best (52-03.25).

The women's shot put brought new records to the facility as Minnesota unattached thrower, Navoka Clunis broke the event record with a 51-10.50 toss. SophomoreÂ
Micayla TerWee lead the charge for the Jackrabbits, placing eighth (43-10.50), followed by freshmanÂ
Madeline Moorhouse (43-07.75) and juniorÂ
Kasie Vollmer (42-00.75).

As for the weight throw, Minnesota's unattached thrower, Kaitlyn Long extended the SDSU Holiday Open record to 69-06.75. JuniorÂ
Abby Sudbeck led the Jacks in the event, earning herself a personal-best and a fifth-place finish (57-07.50).Â
Micayla TerWeealso added a personal-best to her career and recorded 10th (50-02.75).

Bryant Courter won both the long jump competition (24-04.50), and the triple jump (50-00.75), breaking the event record by over a foot. Teammate, and junior,Â
Josh Dotson added a new career-best of 20-06.50 in the long jump.

For the women in the long jump, freshmanÂ
Emily Altenburg placed third (17-08.00), the best Jackrabbit jump. Not far behind was another freshman inÂ
Emma Stewart, who finished fifth (17-02.25). Unattached jumperÂ
Whitney Perry added a new personal-best with a distance of 15-11.00 while also adding one in the 60m as well (8.24).

Trent Francom and redshirt-freshmanÂ
Anthony Andera represented the Jackrabbits in the pole vault, placing third (15-07.00) and fourth (15-07.00), respectively. Andera's jump is his new personal-best, as Francom competed in his first meet as a Jackrabbit.

For the Women's pole vault, junior Kimberly Peterson of Sioux Falls broke the SDSU Holiday Open record for the highest jump (13-03.50). FreshmanÂ
Amy Muller cleared 10-04.00 in her first colligate meet as a Jack.

Freshman standoutÂ
Michelle Johnson and sophomoreÂ
Bailey Cowling took first and third in the women's high jump. Johnson, in her first meet, cleared 5-05.00 while Cowling added a new personal-best of making 5-05.00 as well.

Jaymie O'Connor recorded second (8.81) in the prelims of the 60m hurdles and shaved off seven hundredths of a second to finish runner-up in the finals (8.74). For the men, redshirt-freshmanÂ
Nick Wessels ran a career-best time of 8.41 in both the prelims and the finals to record fourth place.

Freshman starÂ
Coby Hilton added some good time, finishing sixth in the finals of the 60m with a best time of 6.99 in the prelims. He also added a fourth-place finish in the 200m (22.02) in his early career.Â
Cameron Kuil, another freshman, placed third in the 200m, beating Hilton by five hundredths of a second (21.97).

Heidi Stoltenburg was the lone Jackrabbit in the 800m, recording 2:28.24 in the win.

In the women's 600m, another event record was broken and an SJAC record fell. Minnesota's Titania Markland finished 1:29.89 to add her name on the record list. Then Minnesota came back in the women's 400m and broke the event record there. Sophomore Briesha Hobbs timed her 400m at 56.46.

To finish the night, the men's 4x400m relay team won the race with a time of 3:18.30. SophomoreÂ

Cameron Kuil and redshirt-freshmanÂ
Josh Goehring. JuniorÂ
Sam Johnson brought it home as the fourth leg.

UP NEXT
The Jacks will wait until Jan. 13 for their next meet, where they will travel to league favorite, North Dakota State, at the NDSU Bison Classic. The following weekend, Jan. 19, the Jacks will host the SDSUÂ DII Invitational on Friday and then host the Jim Emmerich Invitational on Saturday.
