King sets 3,000-meter steeplechase record in California

The South Dakota State track and field program had student-athletes competing at four different meets Friday.

Distance runners impress in California
Rachel King set the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and a couple other distance runners set top-10 marks Friday in California.

At the Stanford Invitational, King finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase posting a time of 10:14.08. Halie Mechels set the previous record last season with a time of 10:25.39

Joel Reichow ran the 10,000-meter run finishing with a time of 28:56.24 in a stacked field of competition.

At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Trevor Capra finished the 5,000-meter run in 14:35.06, which is good for fifth on the South Dakota State top-10 list.

Kyle Burdick finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:49.89. Brendan Sage finished the event with a time of 3:56.94.

Emily Donnay finished the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:26.95 to claim third place. Donnay moved up one spot on the school's top-10 list and now sits in second place.

Josh Dotson posted a personal-best distance in the triple jump with a distance of 49-08.25 to move into fourth in school history. Jake Lieberg finished second in the event with a distance of 47-03.00.

Kasie Vollmer won the discus throw 168-06 . Silvia Zanini finished fourth with a throw of 150-09. Rachel Astleford claimed third in the javelin throw with a distance of 117-10.

In the 5,000-meter run, Jackrabbits' performed well. Emma Nelson won the women's race recording a time of 19:34.00. Isaiah Barlow (15:56.04) finsihed second on the men's side and Ray Munsterman (16:06.13) finished third running unattached.

Action is set to resume Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put and long jump and the men's hammer throw.

Reagan Francom tied for second in the pole vault with a clearance of 16-04.50

Monique Mack tied fo fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-05.00.

JJ Hejna tied for first in the high jump clearing 6-06.75, tying an outdoor personal best. Zach Koosman tied for sixth clearing 6-02.75.

Bryant Courter claimed third in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 24-03.00.
