WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – The South Dakota State men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Purdue Invitational on Friday at the Schwartz Tennis Courts.
Junior
Chuck Tang defeated Bernardo Aviles of Cardinal Stritch, 7-5, 6-4, while
Elliot Ward dropped to Brandon Lew from Illinois State, 6-2, 6-4.
Aidan DeBoer fell 6-2, 7-5 to Jake Klein of Washington and
Alberto Gonzalez also moved to the left side of the bracket after a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Alec Robillard of Ball State.
Henrique Stemmer was upended by Collin Rigney of Ball State, 6-1, 6-0, while
Carlos Martinez captured his first-collegiate win topping Matt Moe of IUPUI, 6-4, 6-0.
Emerson Styles defeated Eddie Griesedieck from Marquette, 6-3, 6-4 and
Marco Paulo Castro fell to Aro Gerstein of Butler, 6-2, 6-2.
On the doubles side, Tang and DeBoer fell 6-3 in the first round and won the second 6-1.
Martinez and Gonzalez were upended 6-0, then defeated IUPUI 7-5.
Castro and Stemmer also moved left with a 6-0 loss to Haugen and Kozlowski from Washington in the first round then dropped a 6-1 decision to Olivet Nazarene.
Styles and Ward lost in the first round 6-1 then came back in the second with a 6-4 win.
