An elite field of collegiate golfers will descend on the Prairie Club in Valentine, Nebraska, Sunday through Tuesday as the South Dakota State men's golf team hosts The Jackrabbit for a third consecutive year.
The Dunes Course at Prairie Club, ranked the third-best course in Nebraska by Golf Digest and No. 76 on Golf Magazine's top 100 public courses in the country, hosts the 54-hole tournament on its 7,726-yard par-72 design. Tee times for Sunday and Monday are 9 a.m. and Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
The three-day event features one of the season's top collegiate fields. The field includes: (1) Missouri, (24) UMKC, (29) Central Florida, (32) Kansas, (34) Tennessee, (45) South Carolina, (47) Boise State, Connecticut, Creighton, Houston, Oral Roberts, Nebraska, Santa Clara and South Dakota State.
The field also includes a pair of Missouri Tigers among of the top-10 collegiate golfers. Hayden Buckley ranks third and Rory Franssen fifth. UMKC's Francois Lagraulet is eighth.
With just two tournaments under its belt, South Dakota State is led by junior
Alejandro Perazzo with a 73.33 stroke average. Junior
Jared Nicolls and
Alejandro Restrepo both have 75 stroke averages.
In the inaugural Jackrabbit in 2015, SDSU's
Trevor Tobin and
Grant Smith finished tied for third and fifth, respectively, playing against six ranked teams and four of the top-50 collegiate golfers. The Jackrabbits finished fifth, shooting a three-round, seven-over par 871 (295-290-286). South Florida won the tournament, firing an 18-under par 846 (295-275-276).
Last year, Jackrabbit junior
Jaxon Lynn finished third, shooting a six-under par 210 (67-73-70) and collected 12 birdies and an eagle in the tournament. The Jackrabbits, who recorded a school-record 563 for 36 holes, finished fourth. Clemson won the 11-team tournament and the Tigers' Doc Redman won the 64-player event, firing a 13-under par 203 (63-70-70).
