South Dakota State wrapped up the last meet of the weekend on Saturday evening. The Jim Emmerich was one of two meets hosted by the Jackrabbits, with notable teams competing in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

Highlighting the afternoon was sophomore Bryant Courter's performance. Courter started with the long jump, recording third (23-08.75).

Next was the triple jump, where he broke the 25-year-old school record in the first weekend of December. The Rich Hill, Mo., native came out this weekend and added another 1.25 inches to it. He now has the school record and both meet records (SDSU Holiday Open & Jim Emmerich Invite).

Another strong performance came out of the women's throwing group. On Friday at the SDSU DII Invite, the women added six personal bests between shot put and weight throw. Tonight, was more of the same.

Senior Kasie Vollmer tossed a seventh-place shot put (47-04.25), which put her name eighth on the school's all-time throw list. The freshman Madeline Moorhouse heaved another shot put top 10, placing ninth in the event. Her mark of 45-11.75 puts her tied with fellow thrower, sophomore Micayla TerWee.

Juniors Rachel Astleford and Emma Johnson, and freshman Alex Dynes also increased their PR's. Astleford finished 16th (42-00.00) in the Jim Emmerich shot put while Johnson and Dynes threw their best on Friday at the DII Invite and then topped their performances this afternoon. Johnson finished 21st (40-03.50) while Dynes finished 22nd (38-04.75).

The shot put was just half of the performance, in the weight throw, junior Abby Sudbeck launched a new career best of 58-02.50, which still puts her in sixth for the farthest in school history. She finished sixth in the competition.

Sophomore Allison Torrance also increased her personal best, notching 44-01.25 for a 28th-place finish. Freshmen Madeline Moorhouse, Naomi Wynn, and Alex Dynes, along with unattached Kenzie Shubert, competed in the weight throw for the first time.

Junior Krista Steele had a couple great runs in the 800m and 4x400m relay. She won the 800m with a personal best 2:11.00. The mark is ranked second behind fellow teammate, sophomore Oksana Covey. Then, at the end of the night, Steele ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay, which has the season-best time for Jacks.

The Jackrabbits will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the Mark Messersmith Invitational on Saturday. It'll be the second consecutive meet that the Jacks will compete in against the Panthers.

Redshirt freshman Nick Wessels posted a personal best, good enough for sixth all-time in school history. In the prelims, he broke a ninth-place tie with Zach Wirth to move into eighth place. Then, in the finals, Wessels improved his time by one tenth of a second to move to sixth.

Freshman Kendyl Kreber recorded her personal best while sophomore Haley Mottinger adds her best place finish in the 60m hurdles.
