Jacks Upended By UNI

MINNEAPOLIS - The South Dakota State women's tennis team fell to Northern Iowa, 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center.

SDSU moves to 0-2 on the season.

"This was a solid battle," head coach Joey J. Barnes said. "Our players did their best to overcome adversity and pressure (nerves). As I have been trying to teach them, it is not about the wins or loses, it is about how you control what you do, when you do it and how you do it. Temperament is the key to a successful path. Today we were successful. I am proud of our team and the efforts that they displayed. We look forward to getting better."

The duo of Emilly Van Dijk and Maria Laura Velazco won their doubles match 6-1, but it wasn't enough as UNI captured the doubles point taking No. 1 and 2.

Junior Morgan Brower claimed the first point for the Jacks with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4.

At No. 6, Laura Romero won the second point for State with a 6-2, 7-5 win.
