Manuleleua Honored by Summit League
South Dakota State's
Leah Manuleleua was named the Summit League's Offensive Player of the Week, announced Aug. 27 by the league office.
Manuleleua helped the Jacks to a perfect 2-0 record at home last weekend, thanks in part to a seven-point showing against Wayne State Friday that included the ninth hat trick in the program's history. Manuleleua became the first to score three or more goals in a game for SDSU since
Diana Potterveld did it in 2012.
The Manteca, California native scored the eventual game-winner and game's first goal in the fifth minute against WSC, taking a throw-in from
Hannah Evans near the top of the box and firing it past the Wildcat keeper. She added another goal in the 32nd frame on a header from
Carina McLennan's corner kick, and after assisting on the game's fourth score (scored by Evans) she completed the hat trick in the 48th, dribbling through defenders in the box and finding the back of the net. The forward closed the weekend with a team-high four shots against Drake Sunday, playing 66 minutes in the 1-0 win.
This is Manuleleua's third weekly award after she picked up the honors twice in 2017.
