SIOUX FALLS—After finishing third at the 2018 Summit League Championship, the South Dakota State women's golf team was picked second in the 2019 league coaches preseason poll released Thursday.
The women's team received 55 points from the league's head coaches. Last season, SDSU was picked fourth.
Defending Summit League champion Denver was selected to win the 2019 Summit League championship, collecting 64 points and eight first-place votes. Ranked third was Oral Roberts with 51 points and a first-place vote.
North Dakota State was picked fourth, South Dakota fifth and North Dakota sixth. Omaha, Purdue Fort Wayne and Western Illinois were the final three teams in the poll.
The Jackrabbits turned in a pair of top-five and three top-10 finishes this fall. Three starters have 76-or-lower scoring average. The team sports a 300.87 scoring average for 15 rounds and ranks behind Denver and is tied with Oral Roberts. SDSU has shot 300-or-lower in nine rounds.
Juniors
Teresa Toscano and
Sydney Bormann were two of 11 golfers chosen by the league coaches to watch this season.
Toscano finished the fall leading the team and ranking second in The Summit League with a 73.07 scoring average. She opened the season winning the UNO Invitational and has three top-10 finishes.
Bormann is second on the team and seventh in the league with a 76.20 stroke average. She has a pair of top-10 finishes.
The 2019 Summit League Women's Golf Championship is April 21-23 at the ArborLinks Golf Club in Nebraska City, Neb. The team champion earns the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Golf Tournament.
The SDSU women's team opens its spring season Feb. 16-17 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Collegiate in Greensboro, Ga.
