South Dakota State equestrian dropped its season opening meet against No. 8 TCU 17-3, Thursday.
Seniors
Jessica Martinez and
Claire Garduno led the Jacks, each scoring a 72 in their rides in Fences, with Martinez earning the lone point for the team. Freshmen
Rachel Darby (71),
Samantha Hunsecker (67) and
Rachel Head (69) also recorded rides in the event.
Simultaneously, Reining was underway as freshman
Cassandra Townsend earned a point.
Cassidy Gardiner scored a career-best 69.5 in her ride while freshmen
Natalie Gydesen (69) and
Isabelle Riggs (67) debuted with solid performances as well. Through the first two events, SDSU trailed 8-2.
The Jacks earned a point from
Rylee Streit in Horsemanship with her ride of 73 while
Kodi O'Boyle (73.5) and
Jordan Gates (72.5) also had strong rides.
Flat didn't swing in the teams favor, dropping the event 5-0, despite a 77-point performance from
Hayley Kastrup and a 71 from Garduno.
